Understanding Europe Austria

Understanding Europe Austria was launched in 2014 and works in partnership with EYP Austria . Since then, we have had the pleasure of conducting workshops throughout Austria, especially in Graz and Vienna.

Every year, we welcome new and motivated coaches from diverse backgrounds into our small family. In our work, we strive to give each coach the tools they need to reach as many students in a variety of schools as possible.

Our range:

In addition to our proven crash course on the European Union, we are now offering new courses on media and climate justice. Our courses typically last four hours and are designed to be highly engaging and interactive. Each course focuses on workshops that students can choose from and that run concurrently.

Course bookings are free of charge and can be made for the following topics:

EU crash course

  • Workshop Why does the EU exist?
  • Workshop Who is the EU?
  • Workshop What is the EU doing?

Media crash course

  • Workshop Discriminatory Languages and Narratives in the Media
  • Workshop Faster than the algorithm

Crash course in climate justice

  • Workshop Be part of the solution, not the pollution
  • Workshop on career orientation in times of climate change

Our activities:

Our main activities are courses in schools. In addition to our school visits, we also organize regular training sessions for our volunteers to become official Understanding Europe trainers and deepen their knowledge. In 2021/22, we received external funding to organize a participatory format. For this purpose, we held a one-off discussion event with six external guest speakers.

“After being introduced to the European Youth Parliament in 2017, I have always felt very passionate about European values and youth participation. The Understanding Europe project, specifically, appealed to me because of its novel, tangible and interactive teaching and learning approach, which is mutually enriching for both pupils and trainers. Moreover, I enjoy being part of an international team of equally motivated and like-minded people who share my interests.”
