Understanding Europe Belgium

Understanding Europe has been active in Belgium for over 5 years and since then the project is growing steadily. We cooperate with many different schools in all regions of the country and deliver high quality civic European education to hundreds of students every year. We offer to conduct the EU-Crash-Course in English, Dutch or French and in an analogue or digital format, always for free!

In 2021, we aim to include other organizations and NGOs into our project (thus widen the project to a wider range of groups, rather than simply high school and university students) and want to broaden our activities by including green activism into our programs. Moreover, Understanding Europe Belgium operates as a project of the European Youth Parliament Belgium.

“In Belgium, which is perceived by many as the heart of Europe, young people want to be aware of how the European Union works and how they can be active citizens. It is mandatory for them to vote in the European Elections so it's crucial that by the time students leave the high school, they are able to make an informed decision. Understanding Europe is a perfect complement to the curriculum ensuring that pupils' desire for the EU knowledge is fulfilled.”

“Understanding Europe Belgium is the perfect way for young people to understand how the European Union works and, most importantly, how to become active citizens in society. Everyday racism, discrimination, inequality gaps, but also problems like climate change, among many others, suffocate our society, day by day. Remaining silent and indifferent becomes the worst fault ever. Therefore, it is our duty to make this society a better place and ensure a better living for the next generations. Only by acting together, will we achieve this.”
