In 2022 the concept of the Transnational Trainings for Trainers was born, having its debut in Yerevan, Armenia and continuing in Bilbao, Spain. Both events gathered around 20 participants from more than 10 countries and had a focus on the topics and workshops created by the Fellowships of 2021 and 2022. This time, the focus was on the European elections 2024: enabling the youth to fight for Climate Justice.

About the program

After arriving in Porto, our Portuguese hosts organized a nice team-building evening for the organizing and academic team. This year’s fellows Julia Kikel and Davit Manukyan were in charge of some of the program activities together with the Peer Educator Gemma Arcidiacono.

From Friday on the three-day programme began with getting-to-know each other and team-building activities for the participants. After some fun games, Fernando Coelho from Lipor. the Municipalities Association for Sustainable Waste Management of Greater Porto conducted a module where participants learned about the work rewarding waste treatment in Porto, as well as in its surroundings.

On the second day, our project manager with a focus in Diversity Oriented Processes, Daniela, conducted a Diversity Sensitivity workshop on the topic of privileges in the first half of the day. This workshop really helped set the tone for the rest of the weekend since participants were able to understand what their privileges are and where do they stand when it comes to certain topics. To end the morning, our Peer Educator, Gemma, conducted a workshop on the European elections for participants to get familiar with the main concepts.

Davit Manukyan presented the Participation Crash Course on the second half of the day. Trainers got to learn how to deliver the course, as well as reflect on the role of active citizenship education when it comes to the upcoming European elections.

To close of the day, a panel discussion was held around the presence and importance of the topic of Climate justice for the European elections. We welcomed to the panel the Porto City Hall Vice-President, Filipe Araújo; the representative from Europe Direct Porto, Rui Sousa and last but not least, the Portuguese MEP, Jõao Albuquerque.

For the third and last day, our fellow working on Climate Justice, Julia Kikel, conducted a workshop on her course and the concept of intersectionality.

After a feedback session, it was time to say goodbye.

We are very happy with how things went at the forth transnational training for trainers and want to thank all participants and especially our great hosts.
