The Media and I

Here, you find all materials for a workshop discussing the representation of young people in the media. It was developed by Julia Rieger consists of a manual, a presentation and two videos.

What is this workshop about?

How are young people represented in the media, and what impact does this have on them? This workshop will focus on two main themes: first, the students  learn about the role and importance of independent journalism and how we are influenced by the news media (video 1). Then, they examine the creation and impact of media from their own perspective and discuss where they see their opinions represented. The question of diversity in journalism will also be discussed (video 2) during the workshop. The target group are young people in the ages 14 to 18 years old.

About the material

The workshop was developed by Julia Rieger as part of her Media & Democracy Fellowship 2020. The material is part of our “Media-Crash-Course“but can also be used as a workshop of its own. Respective instructions can be found in the manual.
